ADVANTAGES
- Environmentally friendly
- Seals, waterproofs, hardens, dust-proofs and preserves most concrete surfaces.
- Penetrates 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches into the concrete and forms an internal seal and water barrier.
- Holds a hydrostatic head, significantly reduces dampness, moulding, pitting, rutting and dusting.
- Protects steel within the concrete from rust and corrosion.
- Aid to uniformly cure concrete, improves resistance to spot drying and hair checking.
- Provides a prepared surface for better bonding of concrete toppings, adhesives and paints.
- 1 time application.
- Can be applied from inside of structure.
- Dramatically extends the life of paint, concrete toppings and adhesives.
- Retards oils, grease, acids and salts from penetrating and deteriorating the concrete.
- Permanently densifies and hardens concrete.Reduces breeding environment of harmful bacteria.
- Reduces disagreeable odours.
- Non-slip
- Will not alter colour, texture or any other physical characteristic of the concrete surface.
- Leaves no film or membrane ~ natural finish.
- May be applied as soon as forms are removed from new concrete.
COVERAGE
- Floors: 150 - 250 square feet/gallon
- Walls: 150 square feet/gallon
CAUTIONS
- DO NOT use Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant as an add mixture.
- DO NOT apply to glass, glazed surfaces or aluminum as etching will occur. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water immediately.
- DO NOT apply to exposed coloured aggregate, brick or tinted surfaces as staining may occur. Clearly The Best Top Sealant is recommended for such surfaces.
- DO NOT apply when temperature falls below freezing or to surfaces that are frozen.
- Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant IS NOT effective with some lightweight concrete blocks made with aggregates such as cinder or shells as these materials are too porous and contain insufficient amounts of free lime. Clearly The Best Top Sealant is recommended for extremely porous surfaces.
- Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant IS NOT meant to fill or seal visible cracks.
- For surfaces not specified in this information, or where concrete may have been previously sealed, we recommend that Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant be applied to a small test area first and observed for possible adverse reactions.
- As an internal preservative, Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant WILL NOT cause liquids to bead on the surface.
- Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant MAY NOT be effective against serious ground alkali conditions which may have caused irreparable damage to the interior of the substrate.
- Very dense and highly troweled surfaces, whether or not treated with Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant, may be too smooth for paint adhesives. In this situation, we recommend Clearly The Best 429 STUF polyurethane sealer.
- Material Safety Data Sheets available upon request.
SURFACE PREPARATION
- New or clean concrete: Clearly The Best Concrete Sealer may be applied as soon as forms are removed.
- Dirty concrete: Concrete needs to be cleaned thoroughly using a commercial cleaner (acidic or alkali) to remove the majority of the contaminants. Oil spots may require several cleanings to remove the residue; some stains may be permanent. Commercial or high pressure washing equipment is recommended. Clearly The Best Surface Conditioner should then be applied as per instructions to clean residue off and to neutralize the surface. Rinse Clearly The Best Surface Conditioner off and follow instructions for applying Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant.
- Painted or sealed concrete: Any previous surface treatment must be removed prior to application of Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant. Remove by scraping, grinding, sandblasting or applying a suitable caustic solvent remover. Use Clearly The Best Surface Conditioner to neutralize the surface before sealing. You may treat the concrete the same day.
- Dusting conditions: Sweep or pressure wash concrete to prepare it for treatment.
- Excessive dusting/moisture conditions: In areas where moisture or dusting conditions are a problem, make note of the size of the damp area or the amount of dust collected by sweeping in order to compare original conditions with after-treatment conditions. Moisten the concrete and apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant according to instructions. When dry, compare original conditions to after-treatment conditions.
- Cracked or pitted concrete: Remove loose debris from surface. Chip out cracks in 'V' shape and apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant to chipped area only. After 24 hours, apply patching compound to repair area and allow at least 24 hours to set. Then mist the entire surface and apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant to both original and patched areas.
- Seepage cracks (if not shifting): Remove loose debris from surface. Using a grinder or jackhammer, cut out cracks with a straight edge. Apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant to the cracks before filling with specialty cement. Use specialty cement mixed 1/4 Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant to 3/4 water ~ mix only a small quantity to be used right away (1/2 gallon). Fill cracks with this mixture and let dry. Apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant to the whole surface including the filled cracks as per normal application instructions.
- Shifting cracks: There are specific instructions for filling shifting cracks. Please call to deal with your individual situation.
- Efflorescence: Efflorescence is a lot like seepage because it is caused from moisture coming through the concrete and bringing the contaminants to the surface. 2 - 3 coats will stop the efflorescence in most situations however you need to keep applying the product until the moisture/efflorescence is stopped.
APPLICATION
Concrete walls and hand troweled concrete pads:
- Shake the container well before using. If the product has been previously frozen, thaw completely and shake well. Use Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant right out of the container. DO NOT mix or dilute with other liquids.
- Soak all surfaces with water and let soak into surface before applying Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant. Walls and pre-casts will require more water. The areas that dry out quickly will need to be re-soaked with water. Water is used as a carrier for the product and the further the water penetrates into the concrete, the further the sealant will be carried into the surface to form its internal seal.
- Apply Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant with a sprayer (20 to 30 psi). Apply liberally and saturate all areas. On vertical surfaces, apply from the bottom up. If the concrete sealant sits on the surface in certain areas, brush it out with a broom otherwise it will form a gel on the surface. Let it soak in anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Lightly mist the surface with water before applying the 2nd coat.
- Two coats are recommended for all surfaces and 3 coats may be needed in seepage, dusting and efflorescence situations.
- Efflorescence is often a normal by-product when Clearly The Best Concrete Sealant is applied. It takes the contaminants (salt, etc...) out of the concrete and will bring it to the surface. When the efflorescence dries, just brush it off. Once your surface is sealed, there will be no more efflorescence.
Power Troweled or dense surfaces:
- Moisten surface(s) with water and allow to near dry.
- Apply concrete sealant liberally and evenly, saturating the entire surface by using a sprayer (20 to 30 psi). DO NOT use airless sprayer.
- Mist with water about 2 hours after application.
- Areas that soak in quickly, compared to the rest of the concrete, need a second application of the product.
- Follow procedure again for 2nd application.
