CAUTIONS
- DO NOT apply to glass, glazed surfaces or aluminum as etching will occur. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water immediately.
- DO NOT apply to pressure treated wood.
- Clearly The Best Wood Sealant is not recommended for veneers or man-made wood products.
- DO NOT apply when temperature falls below freezing or to surfaces that are frozen.
- Clearly The Best Wood Sealant is not meant to fill or seal visible cracks.
- Clearly The Best Wood Sealant may deepen the colour tones of the wood. We recommend a test application to determine degree of colour enhancement.
- For surfaces not specified in this information, we recommend that Clearly The Best Wood Sealant be applied to a small test area first and observed for possible adverse reactions.
- Material Safety Data Sheets available upon request.
SURFACE PREPARATION
- New or clean surfaces: May be applied either before or after construction.
- Dirty surfaces: Clean wood as well as possible using commercial cleaners or by sanding. Clearly The Best Surface Conditioner is recommended as a highly effective cleaner for cedar as well as other types of wood. Rinse thoroughly with water after application of Surface Conditioner and follow the application instructions for the sealant.
- Painted or sealed surfaces: Any previous surface treatment must be removed prior to application of Clearly The Best Wood Sealant. Remove by scraping, sanding or applying suitable caustic solvent remover. Apply Clearly The Best Surface Conditioner to neutralize the wood and prepare the surface for sealing. Rinse thoroughly. Application of sealant may be applied when wood is still wet.
- Hot/dry conditions: Cool and moisten wood prior to application of sealant by misting with water.
- Cracked or chipped wood: Remove loose debris from surface. Apply Clearly The Best Wood Sealant to repair area only. After 24 hours, apply filling compound to repair area and allow at least 24 hours to set. Then mist the entire surface lightly with water and apply Wood Sealant to both original wood and filled areas.
- Excessive moisture conditions: In areas where moisture is a problem, make note of the size of the damp area in order to compare original conditions with after-treatment conditions.
APPLICATION
Clearly The Best Wood Sealant should be applied using sprayer equipment to ensure proper coverage of joints, laps, butts, etc...
- Shake the container well before using. If the product has been frozen, thaw completely and shake well. Use Clearly The Best Wood Sealant right out of the container. DO NOT mix or dilute with other liquids.
- Wet all surfaces with water and let soak in before application of Clearly The Best Wood Sealant.
- Apply Clearly The Best Wood Sealant with a sprayer (20 to 30 psi).
- Apply the product liberally and saturate all areas. On vertical surfaces, apply from the top down. If the Wood Sealant sits on the surface in certain areas, brush it out otherwise it will form a gel on the surface. Let the Wood Sealant soak in anywhere from 1/2 - 2 hours.
- Before applying the second coat, lightly mist the surface with water. Apply the second coat of Clearly The Best Wood Sealant and let it soak in. Two coats are recommended.
- In areas where foreign matter such as grease or oil have penetrated, Clearly The Best Wood Sealant may force the residues to the surface. We recommend that any residue be thoroughly cleaned away before other treatments such as paint are applied.
- Clearly The Best Wood Sealant penetrates the surface within 1/2 - 2 hours. Limited foot traffic is permissible after 30 minutes. Clearly The Best Wood Sealant's full protection will be achieved within 24 hours.
- Clearly The Best Wood Sealant leaves a natural finish. Surface texture will appear the same as untreated wood.
- Clean up equipment with mild soap and water. Allow surfaces to dry thoroughly before applying other surface finishes such as paint, varnish, etc...
